Genus Pamphagus Thunberg, 1815

Pamphaus Thumberg, 1815. Mem. Acad. Sci. St-Petersb. 5: 211–301. Type-species: Grylllls ( Locusta) elephas Linnaeus, 1758 .

Diagnosis: Male genitalia: supra-anal plate acute-angular, cercus compressed and angluar; subgenital plate short, widely conical; epiphallus wide, with large ancorae and excurved posterior margin and a pair of clusters of small teeth. Female genitalia: Supra anal plate elongated and narrowing apically, cercus simple, short and broad (fig. 3A); subgenital plate (fig. 3B) with posterior margin serrated, concave medially, without setae, Jannone's organs absent, egg-guide rudimentary; spermatheca (fig. 3C) with a single short, broad and recurved diverticulum; ovipositor (fig. 3D) valves elongate, robust, curved, shorter than lateral apodeme, ventral valve with external, lateral projection, mesial tooth present.

The genus is represented by a single species from Fezzan.
