Anagyrus Howard, 1896

Anagyrus Howard in Howard & Ashmead 1896: 638. Type species: Anagyrus greeni Howard, by monotypy. Subsequent important references: De Santis 1964: 56 –59 (diagnosis, distribution, host associations, partial key to species in Argentina); Noyes 1980: 173 (synonymy, list of species in the Neotropical region, brief discussion); Noyes & Hayat 1994: 69 –74 (synonymy, comments, biology); Noyes 2000: 28 –32 (synonymy, list of species in the Neotropical region, brief discussion).

Comments. Species of Anagyrus in Argentina and the entire Neotropical region can be recognized using the key in Noyes (1980). Later, Noyes (2000) provided a useful key to females of the genera in the subfamily Tetracneminae occurring in Costa Rica and a key to Costa Rican species of Anagyrus . The key below includes 14 species of Anagyrus known so far from Argentina and also, for convenience only, A. porteri (Brèthes) from Chile. The previous such key by De Santis (1964) included only six species; De Santis (1964, 1972) also had described several species in other genera which were later justifiably synonymized under Anagyrus by Noyes (1979, 1980, 2000).

All known species of Anagyrus in Argentina seem to be native with the exception of A. pseudococci (Girault) s. str., which was likely unintentionally introduced with grape seedlings from Italy (Triapitsyn et al. 2007).
