DISTRIBUTION: N.W. Brazil; S. E. Colombia; S. Venezuela.

COMMENT: Subgenus Hadrosciurus; see Cabrera, 1961:375. Moore, 1959, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 118:153-206, placed igniventris in the subgenus Hadrosciurus of genus Guerlinguetus . Formerly included tricolor; see Hershkovitz, 1959, J. Mammal., 40:346; Cabrera, 1961:376, and footnote, listed tricolor in igniventris but Hershkovitz, 1959, was not incorporated.
