Worker major. Length 2 lines. - Head enormously enlarged, of a shining, obscure reddish-brown, deeply emarginate behind, and with a central deeply impressed Une running forwards to the insertion of the antennae; the anterior portion of the head and the mandibles striated, the latter very stout, their inner edge smooth, and with a single notch at their apex; the antennae and legs pale rufo-testaceous, the thorax, nodes of the peduncle, and base of the abdomen, rather darker; the club of the antennae 3-jointed, the thorax narrowed behind and armed with two short acute spines; the abdomen, except the base, fusco-ferruginous.
Worker minor. Length a little over a line. - Rather darker than the large worker, the antennae longer, the head much smaller in proportion, with the mandibles denticulate on their inner mar- gin; the body entirely smooth and shining.
