Luciola bicoloriceps Pic 1924
Luciola bicoloriceps Pic 1924: 712 . McDermott 1966: 100. Ballantyne et al. 2016 Tables 6, 7.
Type. Fragmentary, part of right elytron only. Labelled 1. Printed ‘ Illigan Mindanao Baker’; 2. Handwritten ‘17137’. (MNHN) .
Other specimen examined. PHILLIPINES. Male. Labelled 1. Red handwritten label ‘ Luciola bicoloriceps Pic’; 2. Printed ‘Illigan Mindanao baker’; 3. Printed ‘CF Baker collection 1927’; 4. Handwritten in ink ‘17137’ (USNM).
Diagnosis. Pic described a 7 mm long specimen as yellowish, with head yellow between the eyes, elytra larger than the pronotum, and the terminal abdominal ventrite prolonged in the middle.
Remarks. The single intact male from Illigan (USNM) listed above conforms to Pic’s description in colour and the wide elytra, and carries identical labels. However the fragment of elytron (MNHN) is light brownish with paler interstitial lines. Preliminary investigation indicates that the intact male has no MFC and should probably be assigned to Australoluciola .
