Pteroptyx atripennis Pic 1923

Pteroptyx atripennis Pic 1923: 59 . McDermott 1966: 117. Ballantyne & McLean 1970: 264.

Type. Female, fragmentary, without antennae, legs and abdomen. LAOS. Labelled: 1. Printed on red card ‘type’; 2. Printed and handwritten ‘ Laos Pang Hai le 7.v.1920 R. Vitalis de Salvaza’; 3. Handwritten ‘ Pteroptyx atripennis n. sp. ’ (MNHN) .

Remarks. Ballantyne and McLean (1970) addressed this species which they described as 6.6 mm long with orange pronotum and black elytra. Given that the distinguishing feature of the genus Pteroptyx at the time Pic was writing was based on two male features (trisinuate V7 and deflexed elytral apices), there was no justifiable reason for him to have assigned this species based on a female to Pteroptyx .
