Luciola satoi Jeng et Yang 2003

Luciola satoi Jeng et Yang 2003: 251 . Fu 2014: 32.

Type. Holotype male. TAIWAN. (NMNS).

Diagnosis. A Taiwanese species with pinkish red pronotum having central apex dark brown and margins yellowish brown; elytra dark brown, margins yellowish brown (Jeng did not specify extent or width of the margins); posterior margin of V7 rounded; posterior margin of aedeagal sheath sternite two lobed; ML wide at base, narrowing gradually just posterior to the origins of the lobes on the LL; narrow apical portion is ¼ as wide as basal portion; anteromedian margin of sheath tergite broadly and narrowly produced and truncate. Jeng et al. (2003b: 251) distinguished this species from L. roseicollis Pic by its much smaller size, and from the similarly coloured L. kagiana Matsumura by the much larger size of kagiana . Inconsistencies with the identifications of various of these similarly coloured Luciola are discussed under the description of L. curtithorax above, and requires further investigation. Chen (2003: 169) figures a ‘ Luciola sp. 3’ which is L. satoi (Jeng pers. comm.).
