Coffea bengalensis var. bababudanii (Sivar., Biju & P.Mathew) A.P.Davis, comb. et stat. nov.
Basionym:— Psilanthus bababudanii Sivar., Biju & P.Mathew (1992: 212) . Type: INDIA. Kerala: Wynad, Chundale (cult.), 22 June 1989, S. D. Biju 44701 (holotype K!, isotype CALI).
Distribution: —Western India (Bengal to Orissa). TDWG: 40 IND.
Characteristics:— Psilanthus bababudanii was recognized as a new species allied to P. bengalensis (Roxb. ex Schult.) J.-F.Leroy by Sivarajan et al. (1992); the former being glabrous and the latter sparsely pubescent in many of its parts. It was placed in the synonymy of P. bengalensis by Deb (2002) but review of Indian material (including the type specimens) shows that this glabrous variant is worthy of taxonomic recognition and further taxonomic study.
