Comment: Friese (1924) described this species as a variety of C. moerens (Perty, 1833), a member of the subgenus C. (Ptilotopus). Moure et al. (2007) followed Friese (1924) and cited it in that subgenus in the Catalogue of Bees in the Neotropical Region. The detailed study of the holotype showed that C. flavicollis is a member of the subgenus C. (Melanocentris) and not related to Perty’s species or with any other of C. (Ptilotopus).
