The list of characters present here for the identification of genus Notiospathius include most of those proposed by Marsh (2002) and one from our own analysis. These are: scape shorter or equal to length of first flagellomere and not expanded on apical anterior edge; fore wing vein r-m present, though often weak; first and second submarginal cells of fore wing separated, vein 2RS present as a distinct and complete tubular vein; fore wing vein m-cu inserted basal to or directly in line with vein 2RS; first subdiscal cell of fore wing open at apex, vein 2cu-a absent, occasionally an infuscate spot present, or vein 2CU close to vein 2-1A, but not distinct connection by a vein; hind wing vein M+CU shorter, than vein 1M; metasoma inserted lower on propodeum close to hind coxa; first and second metasomal terga not fused, with movable joint between them, and basal sternal plate of first metasomal segment at least 0.37 length of tergum, often nearly as long as tergum (Figs 29–36).
