Remarks. Henri Milne Edwards (1837) described Sesarma indica from Java, Indonesia. A monotypic genus, Tiomanium, was subsequently established to accommodate it by Serène & Soh (1970). The systematics of Tiomanium indicum was further clarified by Yeo et al. (1999), who also reported its range to include Sumatra, Nias, the Natunas, Labuan, Pulau Tioman, Singapore, Peninsular Malaysia and New Guinea. The present material from Mindanao agrees well with the illustrations of Serene & Soh (1970:pl. 5 figs. C, D) and Yeo et al. (1999: fig. 2), and were found in sandy-muddy substrate within a stand of mangrove palm (Nypa fruticans) about 7 m inland and co-occurring with C. carnifex, N. asiaticum and N. fourmanoiri .
