Diagnosis: This species is very similar to Neriene furtiva (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1871) . These two species can be distinguished from other Neriene species by the following combined characters: rather simple paracymbium without branches distally, distal suprategular apophysis with hook-shaped tip of dorsal arm but without membranous ventral tip, terminal apophysis with slightly more than three coils, semicircular atrium opening (Figs 18–19, 20 C–E). This species can be distinguished from N. furtiva by the following characters: 1, the embolus with small rounded appendage distally of spermduct-tooth N. clathrata (Figs 18F, 19E), but with large appendage in N. furtiva (Van Helsdingen, 1969); 2, the tip of terminal apophysis with many lappets in N. clathrata (Figs 18E, 19D), but not in N. furtiva (Van Helsdingen, 1969); 3, the tegulum conspicuously tapering to a point anteriorly in N. furtiva (Van Helsdingen, 1969), but not conspicuous in N. clathrata (Figs 18C, 19 B–C); 4, the atrium opening small in N. clathrata compared with N. furtiva (Figs 18D, 18G, 20 C–D); 5, the dorsal wall of vulva not prolonged into a parmula, posterior margin nearly straight in N. clathrata (Figs 18H, 20E), but not in N. furtiva (Van Helsdingen, 1969) .
