Obidosus Roewer 1931: 154; Mello-Leitão 1932: 426; 1935: 112; Roewer 1957: 82; Kury 2003: 230 (type species Obidosus amplichelis Roewer, 1931, by monotypy).

Etymology

From toponym Óbidos. Gender masculine.

Diagnosis

Species with dorsal scutum type epsilon (never iota, as is frequently present in other Protimesius). Scutal area III with two paramedian erected spines. Leg III – IV without tarsal scopula, tarsal process normal sized (Figure 6 (b)), without terminal long seta; femur, patella and tibia without particular ornamentation, or with conspicuous tubercles on the males (e.g. O. bahiensisı O. evelineaeı O. laevis). Penis: without ventral crack between the malleus and lamina parva (LP); ventral surface of the LP without microsetae (condition only known to some species) (Figure 7 (g,h)). MS B on the malleus, and MS A1 – A2 located on the truncus (Figure 7 (g,h)); MS D2 usually larger than MS D1.
