Genyatremus luteus (Bloch 1790)

Extant specimens: MCUC ZOO.0000016 (Fig. 45).

Classification on the specimen: “P. Th. Perca ”.

Common names on the specimen (Portuguese/Tupi): None.

Comments: This species was undescribed at the time Veloso prepared it. There is a pencil inscription “aurata ?” after the genus and most likely added not by Veloso. Perca aurata Park 1797 (= Scolopsis aurata) is a nemipterid fish from the Pacific. In the Ajuda’s inventory (Ferreira 1794) there are 79 herborized specimens of Perca listed, however, we cannot correlate this specimen to any listed in the transference lists or any description in the Ichthyologia Fluminensis manuscript. Genyatremus luteus occurs in the western Atlantic from Colombia to São Paulo (Brazil) (Menezes & Figueiredo 1980; Lindeman & Toxey 2002).
