Genus PALAEOLECANIUM Šulc

Palaeolecanium Šulc, 1908: 36 . Type species: Lecanium bituberculatum Signoret, 1873 by original designation.

Diagnostic characters of the adult female: Live adult female broadly oval, moderately convex, with margins sloping. Slide-mounted body without stigmatic clefts; stigmatic setae numbering 3 or fewer in each stigmatic area. Preopercular pores present in long, narrow mid-dorsal line. Dorsum with tubular ducts of 2 types. Legs each with tibia distinct from tarsus but without articulatory sclerosis; claw digitules dissimilar, with 1 narrower than the other.

Comments: Worldwide, two species are included in Palaeolecanium Šulc (García Morales et al. 2016); only P. bituberculatum (Signoret) is known from Iran (Bodenheimer 1944b).
