Genus COCCUS Linnaeus

Diagnostic characters of the adult female: Live adult female oval / elongate / pyriform, usually flat to only slightly convex. Slide-mounted, body oval; dorsal surface membranous, gradually increasing in thickness at maturity, with small areolations present. Dorsum with short setae setose / spinose / clavate / cylindrical. Ventral surface with short setae. Pregenital disc-pores mainly each with 10 loculi, present around anogenital fold or extending anteriorly, even as far forward as head. Spiracular disc-pores each with 5 loculi. Preopercular pores present or absent. Dorsal tubular ducts and dorsal submarginal tubercles sometimes present (usually on submargin). Ventral tubular ducts present or absent; when present, located medially or occasionally forming a sparse to moderately dense submarginal band. Marginal setae simple or branched distally; stigmatic clefts deep or shallow, each containing 3 stigmatic setae. Antennae usually with 7 or 8 segments. Legs usually well developed, with or without a tibio-tarsal articulatory sclerosis. Anal cleft of moderate depth. Anal plates together quadrate, sometimes with subdiscal setae but never with discal setae. Anal ring with 6 or 8 setae.

Comments: Worldwide, 114 species are included in Coccus (García Morales et al. 2016); two species are known from Iran (Moghaddam 2013).
