Fucus pavonius Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 2: 1630. 1763, orth. var.

"Habitat in Mari Europae australis." RCN: 8296, 8360.

Lectotype (De Clerck in Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press): Herb. Burser XX: 106 (UPS) .

Current name: Padina pavonica (L.) J.V. Lamour. ( Dictyotaceae).

Note: As noted by Price & al. (in Bull. Brit. Mus. (Nat. Hist.) Bot. 7: 3. 1979), this appears best accepted as an orthographic error for F. pavonicus L. (1753) though some authors (e.g. Silva & al. in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 79: 605. 1996) have instead treated it as superfluous, and therefore illegitimate.
