DISTRIBUTION: Guerrero and Yucatan (Mexico) to Peru, Paraguay, and S and E Brazil; Trinidad and Tobago; Margarita Isl (Venezuela); Aruba Isl (Netherlands Antilles); Grenada.

SYNONYMS: brunnea, caninus, phaea, trinitatis .

COMMENTS: Subgenus Peropteryx . Includes trinitatis; see Goodwin and Greenhall (1961:216). Corbet and Hill (1980:45) listed trinitatis as a distinct species without comment.
