Linognathus africanus Kellogg and Paine
Pickens Co., Six Mile, 8 February 2003, ex Capra hircus Linnaeus, coll. S. Miller. Linognathus africanus is a nearly cosmopolitan ectoparasite of domestic goats and sheep. This louse was not previously reported in South Carolina, but Durden et al. (1997) reported it from Tennessee. Linognathus africanus is a potentially irritating pest of goats. Pet goats are popular in South Carolina and this louse could come into contact with people that allow goats into their homes.
