Euschoengastia jamesoni (Brennan)

Euschoengastia jamesoni is a parasite of insectivores in the mountains of South Carolina. OConnor (1985) reported E. jamesoni from the ears of Sorex dispar Batchelder in Tennessee and Joy et al. (1973) reported it from B. brevicauda in West Virginia. We removed larval chiggers from the ears and body of both B. brevicauda and S. fumeus . The attachment sites were cup­shaped lesions that surrounded the chiggers. Moore (1949) reported similar lesions on S. cinereus .
