Haematopinus asini (Linnaeus)

Oconee Co., Walhalla (Craig's Orchard), 12 June 1943, ex Equus caballus Linnaeus, coll. E.V. Prevort; Pickens Co., Clemson College, November 1933, ex mule ( E. caballus and E. asinus Linnaeus hybrid), coll. D. Dunavan.

The sucking louse of horses is probably still present in South Carolina although the only collection records date from the 1930–1940s. Ewing deposited most of his material in the United States National Museum and the Walhalla record was reported by Kim et al. (1986).
