Paralectotypes: 4♂ 3♀ (Fisher & Orth 1972b). NHMUK
Homeotypes: Many, referred to by Fisher & Orth (1972b) as “other specimens at hand which fit our concept of H. acuticornis .” [Their detailed listing (not including number of males/females) does not specify whether all or only some specimens are homeotypes. The list includes specimens collected 9.I–22.XII in Canada (British Columbia) and in the United States (California, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington), deposited in ANSP, CUIC, KSBS, MCZC, TAMU, UCRC, and USNM.]
Note: Wulp (1897) described H. acuticornis from specimens labeled “ N Sonora, Mexico, Morrison,” but subsequent studies show that they probably were collected in Arizona, U.S.A. (Selander & Vaurie 1962; Fisher & Orth 1972b). Specimens have since been collected in localities both north and south of Sonora, so H. acuticornis almost certainly occurs in Sonora.
