Taxonomic notes. The comparison of type material of both taxa confirms that Hydrocanthus paludimonstrus Miller, 2001 is a junior subjective synonym of H. paraguayensis Zimmermann, 1928 . Females of this species can be easily identified for the particular combination of dark reddish-brown pronotum and dark reddish-brown elytra with yellowish marmorations (Fig. 8b), prosternum laterally and medially setose, prosternal process entirely setose except along the apical margin, metaventrite laterally and apically setose (Fig. 2k, 8c), and large size (5.15 mm).
