Remarks.
This taxon was never published. Diehl originally intended to describe the population from the Abruzzi in central Italy. Later he obviously realised that Burgeff (1926) had already named it a year before Dannehl collected these two specimens (1927). But even Burgeff’s name (subsp. Zygaena exulans Abruzzina) is not based on the discovery, as it was (and still is) a ransalpin name of a former homonymic name (subsp. Zygaena exulans Apennina Rebel, 1910, preoccupied by Zygaena apennina Turati, 1884, a subsp. Of Z. carniolica) (Axel Hofmann pers. comm.).
