Zeugomantispa gradata (Navás)

Mantispilla gradata Navás, 1926 a: 86 . Holotype or syntypes: female (CN). Type locality: Brazil: Mato Grosso do Sul: Corumbá .

Notes.

The condition of this species is very similar to Mantispilla basalis presented above. It was described by Navás (1926 a) from the municipality of Corumbá, at the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The original description does not explicitly state the number of specimens available, but at least one female was mentioned. The species was treated in Mantispa by Penny (1977), Ohl (2004), and Snyman et al. (2018). The type series was supposedly deposited in Navás’ collection but we could not get any information about it. It is probably lost. However, the original description mentioned that the body is mostly yellow to green, there are red marks on the head, the wings are hyaline with pterostigma green, and the pronotum is rugose, all characters suggesting that this species should be placed in Zeugomantispa . Furthermore, based on the color of the pterostigma and the type locality it is very likely that M. gradata is another synonym of Z. virescens . In this sense, we are herein synonymizing Mantispilla gradata Navás, 1926 under Zeugomantispa virescens (Rambur, 1842) based solely on the original description of the species.
