Distribution in Croatia: Along the Dinaric Alps from Ćićarija to Dinara Mt. Records for Istria (Kirby 1906, Ebner 1908) relate to Učka or Ćićarija Mt.
Distribution in Europe: Endemic to the Western Balkans—along the Dinaric Alps from Southern Slovenia and Northwestern Croatia to the central regions of Montenegro. Contact zone with P. macedonicus is suspected along the Drina—Tara River Valleys (Chobanov et al. 2016, Kaya et al. 2015).
IUCN Red List status: Near Threatened (Europe and EU28) (Hochkirch et al. 2016).
