Gymnetron plagiellum Gyllenhal, 1838

Gyllenhal (1838) described G. plagiellum from specimens from Odessa (Ukraine) and Tauria (Turkey) and reported that it differs from R. tetra mainly by the smaller body size. Brisout de Barneville (1862, 1865) synonymized this taxon with R. tetra and all subsequent authors agreed with his opinion. At the NHRS we examined two syntypes of G. plagiellum: a male labelled “♂ / Typus / Khersonia, Lundstedt” (lectotype here designated) and a female labelled “♀ / Tauria, Steven / Allotypus” (paralectotype). We confirm that both specimens belong to R. tetra .
