Gymnetron verbasci Rosenschoeld, 1838

This species was described based on female specimens collected at Tiflis (currently Tbilisi in Georgia) on Verbascum formosum, which were distinguished from R. tetra by the longer rostrum. Brisout de Barneville (1865) studied a female syntype and considered it a large specimen of R. amicta . Hoffmann (1958) considered both taxa as synonyms of R. tetra . We examined a syntype of G. verbasci (probably the same examined by Brisout de Barneville) at NHRS labelled “♀ / Typus / Cleopus in Verbasco formoso, Tiflis, Steven” (lectotype here designated). It differs from female R. tetra by the distinctly longer rostrum.
