Type species. Smicromyrme taiwanus Tsuneki, 1993 (male), by original designation (misspelled as taiwana) (junior subjective synonym of Mutilla friekae Zavattari, 1913 (male), according to Tu et al., 2015: 589).

Taxonomic history. Raised to generic status by Lelej, 1996: 6. Valid generic name.

Sex association. The female of the type species has not been recognized; the female of another species was associated and identified (as Smicromyrme basirufus Chen, 1957: 185, one pair collected in copula) by Lelej, 1996: 6.

Distribution. Oriental, Palaearctic.
