Distribution. Western Atlantic – from North Carolina to Florida, Gulf of Mexico, Antilles (Cuba and Puerto Rico), northern South America, and Brazil (from Amapá to Santa Catarina) (D’Incao 1995b).

Ecological notes. Muddy, sandy, organogenic, and calcareous algae bottoms. From 3 to 100 m, but most commonly found around 80 m (D’Incao 1995b).
