DISTRIBUTION: Hispaniola and La Gonave Island.

STATUS: Extinct.

SYNONYMS: poolei .

COMMENTS: Includes H. poolei (Rimoli, 1976:21), which is known only by the type specimen (USNM No. 255881), because the normal dental variation of H. phenax includes the diagnostic condition in H. poolei .
