TYPE LOCALITY: Ecuador, Prov. de Napo-Pastaza, Canelos (Rio Bobonaza) .

DISTRIBUTION: E Ecuador (east of the Andes).

COMMENTS: Subgenus Proechimys . Corbet and Hill (1991:205) gave the distribution as "Upper Amazon", which is not consistent with accounts in Cabrera (1961) and Nowak (1991).
