ensiformis, Pinna [ Pinna nobilis Linnaeus, 1758] (Figure 36H)

1884h: 8 [XXXI: 664]—available name

Type material. Not found

Type locality. Described from Chioggia and Trieste (Italy), and Palermo (Sicily).

Remarks. Lot 5368 could probably be part of the type material (6 sh from Chioggia) but there are now only the labels left. The specimens were arguably employed for the PBE (1976), and not returned to their original place. Pinna ensiformis is commonly listed among the synonyms of P. nobilis Linnaeus, 1758 (e.g.: Sabelli et al., 1990 – 1992: 285; CLEMAM: Gofas & Le Renard, 2015; MolluscaBase, 2018).
