Type Locality: Paraguay, Boqueron, 16 km W of Filadelfia (22 o 15’S, 60 o 10’W) .

Vernacular Names: Chacoan Tuco-tuco.

Distribution: Gran Chaco of Paraguay, NE Argentina, and SE Boliva.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Cabrera (1961), based on Osgood (1946), placed this form in a separate subgenus Chacomys, as did Nowak (1999). Recognition of this monotypic subgenus is not supported by allozymes (Cook and Yates, 1994) or sequence analysis (Lessa and Cook, 1998). Karyotype has 2n=48-50 and FN=70 (Anderson et al., 1987).
