Macrocorsa beeryi (Caldwell, 1944), comb. nov.

Distribution. Panama.— Brazil: MA, MT (Brown & Hodkinson 1988, as Limbopsylla beeryi), MG, MS (ELEF, NHMB), PA (Caldwell 1944, as Psyllia berryi [sic] and beeryi; Brown & Hodkinson 1988, as Limbopsylla beeryi).

Host plant. Hymenaea courbaril (Fabaceae) .

Comment. The justification of the generic assignement of Psyllia beeryi by Caldwell (1944) was relatively vague. He stated: ‘The gigantic development of the genae sets this species apart from any psyllid known to me; however, the structure of the entire insect is true to the genus.’ Brown & Hodkinson (1988) redescribed the species and transferred it without comment to Limbopsylla which, according to them, contains species of the subfamilies Acizziinae and Ciriacreminae with unclear phylogenetic relationships. Larvae of M. beeryi (ELEF, NHMB) bear pore fields in addition to the circumanal ring, a defining feature of Macrocorsinae. The presence of thick, downwards directed genal processes which are apically subacute or blunt but not incised, suggest a relationship to the Afrotropical Macrocorsa congensis Vo n d r á ček. Here we transfer Psyllia beeryi to this genus as Macrocorsa beeryi (Caldwell), comb. nov.
