Material examined. 1 male. CHINA, Sichuan province, Erlang Mountain, 15-V-2004, leg. Min Wang. 3 males. CHINA, Hunan province, Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area, Zhangjiajie City, altitude 258 m, 17-IV- 2018, leg. Fu-hong Wei. 2 females, same label as the three Hunan specimens mentioned above (SCAU) .
Identification notes. Wingspan 38 mm. Forewing reddish purple, orbicular and reniform stigma brownish, with white edge, big and black. Hindwing with a discal spot, terminal band broad with inner edge wavy.
Diagnosis. This species is similar to S. catacoloides, but can be separated from it by the following characters: in S. interposita forewing purplish black, not brown; terminal band narrower, darkish black rather than brownish black, and anal angle black, it is yellow in S. catacoloides; in male genitalia, valva slenderer, with blunt end rather than acute end in S. interposita, saccular process lamellar-shaped in S. interposita, while in S. catacoloides it is horn-shaped.
Distribution. China (Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Taiwan), India (Hampson 1910; Mell 1936; Singh 2014)
